Review by Tom Harrison, The Province, January 29, 2012
Rick Reubart’s bass pins the record in an R&B bottom while Nicole Scoffield’s violin adds colour and singer Mike Garland has conviction, that come to the fore in “Desperation, Quiet,” one of Jones Rising’s most powerful songs. However, it’s the next song, “With You,” with its latin rhythm and jazzy piano that shows off Apollo Votary’s versatility. What does Apollo Votary sound like ultimately? Listen to its “OMFG” next to Bob Dylan’s “Hurricane” and you might have some idea. Grade: C+.
Apollo Votary: great band great talent and vibe…this group may be Canada’s answer to the Dave Matthews Band and; we enjoyed their experience, energy and fine musical talent.
